Reviving Handcrafted Jewellery In Sri Lanka

The island of Sri Lanka is world famous for its natural gemstone deposits and for exporting these precious stones to the rest of the globe. But it also has a time-honoured jewellery tradition of its own that dates right back to Antiquity. However, this trade has not always received the appreciation it deserves, and the island’s precious-metal artisans gradually gave up their craft until, in the last century, it all but disappeared.

Beyond Blue: The Many Colors of Sapphire

Oona offers a stunning collection of sapphires in a variety of captivating colors, each stone carefully selected for its unique beauty. From the deep blues and vibrant yellows to the delicate pinks and rare greens, our sapphires symbolize elegance and rarity. Every sapphire is ethically sourced and crafted into timeless jewelry pieces that exude sophistication. Discover the allure of multi-colored sapphires, perfect for those seeking a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Tropical Interior Design: My Tour of Sri Lanka’s Most Inspiring Spaces

This “timeless spell” is the defining essence of the island of Sri Lanka, and my inspiration when I’m creating my jewellery designs. Through them, I try to convey this same sense of timeless magic that can be felt in the streets and buildings of cities like Galle and Colombo, and which lead me to fall in love with this island and its people. And now I’d like to invite you to discover the tropical interior design of Sri Lanka that so inspires me, as we take a look at three remarkable locations that are a must-visit for any traveller who loves interior decoration and design.

Sailing The Nile

The ‘Sailing the Nile’ collection was conceived during my journey along the Nile, drawing inspiration from the women who shone in the fascinating culture of Ancient Egypt. These remarkable women played significant roles in society and the economy, enjoying the same rights as men. Each piece in the collection reflects their strength, grace, and influence, honoring their timeless legacy. Crafted with elegance, the jewelry embodies the spirit of these powerful figures from a captivating civilization.

Galle: A Colonial Fort Suspended In Time

Galle is a captivating destination filled with must-see locations that blend history and beauty. Its iconic fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean and is home to charming colonial architecture. Wander through its cobblestone streets to discover hidden cafés, boutique shops, and art galleries that reflect the town’s unique culture. Whether you’re exploring its historic sites or relaxing by the beach, Galle is a place that promises unforgettable experiences.

hi

«When I first arrived in Sri Lanka, I was captivated by the variety of gems and precious stones I found on the island. It was then that I fell in love with the incredible beauty that emerges from the earth, from its raw form in the mines to the brilliance of its colors once cut and polished.»
